When it comes to books, I think of myself as lenient in a sense while reading. There’s not much that will prevent me from reading BUT here are the top 5 things that do prevent me from reading a book!
Biblically Small Fonts
Lemme just say this right here and now, I HATE wearing my glasses to read. I wear bifocals which makes it very difficult for me to read while wearing them. I mean, I wear them when necessary but I’d much prefer not wearing them while reading. Which this issue actually brings me to my next bookish thing I don’t like-
Mass Market Paperbacks
I feel like this ties in with the small fonts issue but my main problem with mass market paperbacks is the spines on them. You can barely maintain a hold on them! Though there are incentives like the fact you can throw them in a purse- But these paperbacks are just too small font wise and size wise.
Copy Cat Novels
I have no idea why I call them copycat novels but what I mean is when one novel is almost identical to another novel be it by the same or different author. This, unfortunately, occurs a lot in the bookish community (ESPECIALLY YA).
Dust Jackets on Hardcovers
There’s actually almost nothing wrong with dust jackets, they’re helpful and make the hardcover pretty. Although I just don’t enjoy having to continually take them off and put them back on while reading. It’s more or less a pet peeve of mine. A part of me just wishes that hardcovers were like paperbacks in the sense that the cover doesn’t come off but ehh I get why they don’t lol-
Flat Characters
For me personally, to get invested in a novel, I NEED the characters to have some, any sort of depth to their personalities. When the main character has no personality, I just can’t finish the novel no matter how good others say it is. I just need some form of personality development-
Well, I hope y’all enjoyed my minor rant! Tell me in the comments what your bookish pet peeves are, I’d love to hear them! Thank you for reading (sorry if this was a little too ranty for y’all)!
Why do they even print books with tiny font?? They’re awful!!
